This coffee was produced by Rebeca Gómez with the help of husband Jesús Muñoz. Rebeca is a member of the AMACA (Asociación de Mujeres Productoras Agropecuarias del Cauca) women’s association, a group of producers who grow and process coffee in the municipality of El Tambo, in Cauca state, in the south of Colombia. Her farm “La Albania” is just two and a half hectares in size, located in the small town of La Independencia at an elevation between 1,750-1,900m above sea level.

Growing up in a family of coffee growers, Rebeca has been involved with coffee production her entire life. She has owned her farm for over twenty years, and is a founding member of the AMACA cooperative. Generous with their time, Rebeca and husband Jesús are also influential members of La Independencia’s coffee community and openly share advice and strategies for success with their neighbours. After losing much of her crop to leaf rust in 2009, an event that decimated her property, Rebeca switched to growing the more resilient varieties of Castillo and Colombia at La Albania. These hybrid varieties were introduced by Colombia’s Coffee Federation (FNC) in the 1980s as part of the country’s efforts to reduce the incidence of disease and pests without affecting cup quality.

Rebeca works diligently at the farm to make sure her coffee stands out from the crowd. Her meticulous approach to processing ensures she delivers coffees that are clean and transparent, showcasing the region they come from, the variability of each harvest and the passion and hard work involved in their production. Today, her goal is to replant Caturra trees, along with varieties like Bourbon, Gesha and Chiroso, with the goal of maximising the farm’s potential for quality and earning her and her family higher premiums for their crop.
